From Paris to Madrid

On our last day in Paris we started off with a 3 hour free tour of the city which we really enjoyed and learned so much in. We even discovered that because we were EU citizens and under 25 we were entitled to free entry to the Louvre so we managed to squeeze that in as well to see the Mona Lisa (and a few other things). We then headed back to Monmatre so Gerard could grab one last chocolate crepe and I could have some more ice cream before collecting our things and getting on the night train to Madrid.

The train was surprisingly comfortable and went by very quickly because we were so tired. We arrived in sunny (if a little windy) Madrid yesterday morning. Yesterday we shock shock horror horror bought me a pair of unattractive trainers because my feet are blistered to pieces from the "comfy" sandals I brought with me.

We checked out the palazio real (royal palace) and were able to walk around all the rooms decorated centuries ago - rather plush, and we went to the Plaza de Mayor (very famous square - reminded us of Piazza Navona in Rome). At night we had something very huge to celebrate. Gerard got a first class honours degree and a prize for his project so we went out for tapas with a very nice bottle of Rioja (I am shocked by how much I have been enjoying red wine so far this holiday).

Images will be up later tonight as soon as Gerard sorts out the 'php' files for them!
